2001 Chevy Impala. My Impala wont start. When i turn the key, it starts and dies, then wont restart. The security light is on also. What can i do.
JK: Answer: Welcome. This sounds like a very common problem with the ignition lock cylinder. The security data is sent from the cylinder, to the BCM (body control module). You should have the system scanned to be sure. Probable codes b2958, b2960. Or p2958, p2960. After replacement of the ignition lock cylinder, you will also have to re-learn the security system. Hope this was helpful.
VISITOR: Thanks so much for fast response. If i make donation or tip, will you give me step-by-step instructions on how to do this?
JK: That would be fine, thanks! I will e-mail those out to you right away.
Question: 2001 Chevy Impala. Trying to attach the ignition switch wiring to the top of the switch. Had to pry it out but can't put it back in.
Answer: Well, the first thing you did wrong was prying it out. That connector is for the Passlock sensor. The only way to remove it is to remove the ignition cylinder first, then it comes right out.
To reinstall it, you have to plug it in before you re-install the ignition cylinder. you may have damaged it, so be sure it stays in tightly or you will have a problem with the security system and the car will not start. It does move around a little bit when it is in correctly, but not much.
