Saturn Ion seat belt removal

Unread post by jose » Thu Jan 10, 2013 10:00 pm

I would like to know how to remove the seatbelts. I know where and how to remove the bottom, but im not sure how to get to the pretensioner. It is up in the headliner and I'm not sure how to remove it.

You must have a coupe since you have the seat belt attach in the roof. GM's instructions are to remove the entire headliner to gain access to the bolts for the retractor/pretensioner assembly. But, basically if you remove the trim around the headliner area, along the top of the door line, and the weatherstrip along the body line, you can access the two bolts that holds the rest of the seat belt retractor assembly in place. Just pull down a bit on the headliner and you can get a ratchet in there. Remove the appropriate side sun visor as well to give a bit more room to pull down. Be careful of the connector and wiring for the pretensioner, as it is very fragile and sensitive to mis-handling.
