3500 rpm Idle

Unread post by Coldbeerkid » Fri Mar 02, 2018 3:08 pm

I have a 2002 Grand Prix with 60,000 miles on it. All of a sudden when starting idle races to 3500 rpm. Some wires got chewed up by mice for the coolant sensor. I replaced wires so far, and still running the same. Any suggestions?

a high idle can be caused by a vacuum leak. unmetered air entering the intake system run lean and the O2 sensor says richen up the to get the exhaust to 14.7 to 1. More air plus more fuel means more rpms.

If you can get your hands on a scanner, check your fuel trims. Is your check engine light coming on? Do you have codes that you can tell me the numbers?
