1995 GMC Pickup 305 TBI Back Firing

Unread post by danj59 » Wed Oct 30, 2013 1:57 pm

The truck runs fine when cold and when it is up to normal temperature it will back fire when you give it gas to pass someone. There are no codes and the check engine light does not come on. Also the back firing does not happen all the time. Please Help!!

there are so many things that can cause this type of problem. Things to check are fuel pressure, fuel pressure regulator, O2 sensor activity, spark KV's, wire set not damaged, and cylinder balance. And it goes on from there. ignition coil, distributor pick up or shaft problem, excessive back pressure in the exhaust, timing chain, flat cam, CTS...

is it backfiring through the exhaust of is in backfiring into the intake?

you might need to have the truck driven with a scanner hooked up to watch what is happening when the problem exists. It might not show up in on an "in-shop" examination and diag.

look for either a secondary problem or for a lean miss (not enough fuel to fire in the cylinder)
