Rims and tires effect GMC gas mileage

Unread post by chollalvr » Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:42 am

2010 GMC Sierra 20K newly acquired. Has 22" rims & low profile tires.
Does this affect gas mileage and am I getting accurate MPH readings and why does my mpg suck?

It can make a slight difference in mpg, but usually not that much unless the new wheels and tires are extremely heavy. The circumference of the 22's and low profile tires is close to the 20's with normal tires, so your speedometer should not be that far off. You can always go to your local dealership and have them reprogram the computer for 22's and then it will be right on the money. As far as not getting good mpg otherwise, you have to remember you're driving a truck!
