transmission solenoid for a 2003 trailblazer

Unread post by jp wied » Thu Dec 17, 2009 11:09 pm

My 2003 Chevy Trailblazer acts really really slugish when i try to hit the gas after idling on an incline. Its so bad i have to floor it just to get going. Also after it did this twice the check engine light came. When i had the code checked it said transmission solenoid. Is this some thing i can change or should i leave it to a pro?

There are many solenoids in the trans.
They are located inside the pan on the valvebody.
Not sure which is whick, so you would need a diagram of some kind.

2004 transmission flush?

Unread post by frankrug » Mon Feb 07, 2011 6:24 pm

Hi, I have a 2004 TB with 107000 miles. Changed trans fluid at 75000, thinking about it again, should I just get the flush or drop the pan and change filter too, thanks for you time

If when the last time you changed the transmission fluid you just did the flush and did not drop the pan and replaced the filter, I would suggest doing that this time. Even better, do a full system flush then dropped the pan and change the filter. A filter change only removes about 4 to 5 quarts of fluid, wherein a full system flush removes all the fluid. During the flush, some debris will get caught in the filter so that's why you change it afterwards. You may even want to add an additive since this is a higher mileage Trailblazer.

Thanks very much for the reply. I went to Firestone last time and I had the filter change and fluid, but not the flush. So I'll do the whole 8 yards this . The fluid has a dark red look to it, so it's time

thanks again

This can be a difficult job to do yourself, especially without the truck being on a lift. The truck must be up in the air. The hardest part is getting them off the transmission and then getting them to route properly. There is not much room.

The lines bolt with a few small brackets to the engine oil pan, and it is a real pain the butt to get them back in without bending them.

Expect to pay about 2 hours labor at a shop.
