Do they look the same? I just installed a 96 vortec into my 99 bravada without any issues.

The major difference is the two versions that I noticed (spent a lot of junkyard time)
was one uses an aluminum intake and the other uses a plastic.

Since you mention switching I think you have one of each. The plastic intake 4.3 has a crank sensor beside the damper pulley, and that was my main focal point when looking for a motor.

Had read of head switches and motor type (vin w and z) switches- but neither seemed as easy as using the right motor. If you have to get a new wiring harness and computer in the vehicle, it'll offset your savings quickly with time and frustration.

92 silverado 7.4 liter manual trans wont turn over

Unread post by stevep » Wed Nov 02, 2016 7:29 pm

It wont turn over. Replaced the Starter and the safety switch under the clutch pedal. No Joy. Battery has 12.65 V at rest and cables are clean and shiny. Used the 200 Amp start setting on my Battery charger. No effect. It will Bump start in a heartbeat.

Is there another relay in that circuit or could it be the ignition switch itself? Truck has abut 150 K on it.
You ve helped me before and here I am again...
Thanks

check the yellow wire coming from your ignition switch. You could also check it at the clutch switch. then it goes to the starter solenoid.

Just follow the wiring diagram. power from the ignition switch to the starter. The black fusible link from the junction block powers the two red wires to the ignition switch.

Transmission interchangeable?

Unread post by CrazyW » Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:41 pm

I have a 1978 full time 4x4 suburban with a turbo 350 transmission(np203 transfer case) that has gone bad, and I have a turbo 350 transmission from an 80's part time 4x4 truck with the np208 transfer case. Will the transmission from the part time truck bolt in place of the bad one in the suburban with full time 4x4?

interchangeability is best asked of a wrecking yard. they have interchange books on what will work when swapping stuff.
