Buick 3800 V6 PCV valve assembly

Unread post by mccookrem » Wed Dec 19, 2012 3:25 pm

I have a 1996 buick lesabre 3.8 vin K. the online kits show a spring with the pvc assy. My car does not have a spring in it. Do some models not use the spring. It seems like it would not fit anywhere. also what is the pressure sensor on top for?

All PCV valves on the 3800 engine have a spring on them. It is possible that some time in the past somebody replaced it or the the upper intake manifold and forgot to put it back in. You are actualy lucky this did not cause any problems. A PCV that does not seal properly can cause a very bad oil burning condition.

The sensor on top of the lid is the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP). That is used for fuel delivery calibration.

3.8 engine is hydraulic lifters. Oil pressure takes up the lash. there is no adjustment so no spec. only the "S" body has a lash spec. (Suzuki models) All the other GM engine use hydraulic lifters.

why are you asking about valve lash?
