Silverado Won't stay Running- Steering Feels Loose

Question:
1999 chevy Silverado LS 4X4. ABS codes, SERVICE ENGINE, BRAKES lights on the dash. Truck starts but turns off right away. Just shuts down when the crank over starting it. Truck won't stay Running. If I wait for awhile then it will start back up. It just does kinda like rruummrruum noises. Engine fires up but the engine don't stay running for very long time. Sometimes i have to give it gas to keep it running from dying out.

Answer:
OK. Lets try to understand what the heck you are typing. It starts but dies? If you let it sit for a while it will run, but not very well? Is that the problem you are having with your Silverado?

If so, have the fuel pressure checked. It may be low because of a bad fuel pump or plugged filter. This truck MUST have at least 55 PSI of fuel pressure or it will not start or run very well. Also have the engine checked for vacuum leaks. This vortec engine is very well known to have intake manifold gasket problems. They leak vacuum and cause a very lean condition when the engine is cold. That will make it run bad at idle, but will run better at higher RPM's or when the egnine warms up. The gaskets have been redessigned with a better material that does not expand and contract with temperature. The old style intake manifold gaskets have a green seal around the intake ports, the new style is orange.

Since your truck has a check engine light, get the codes scanned from the PCM. That would give you an idea as to what is going on. The computer may show an oxygen sensor code- that could be caused by a vacuum leak or a failed oxygen sensor. Or it may have a code for another sensor that is malfunctioning.

Hey, I have a 2004 chevrolet Silverado and the steering feels loose. There is no leaks or noises coming from the steering. We checked the fluid level in the reservoir and it was full. I had one tie rod end replaced in it and was told by the mechanic that the other side was tight. Just wondering what are my options to fix this problem?

As long as the front end has been checked and all of the components are tight, If this truck is new to you, then when they get some miles on them, they do feel a little loose. You can try and have the gear box tightened. It is called a "Gear Lash Adjustment". This is a simple fix and a repair shop can do that adjustment for about one hour of labor. That will make it feel a little better, but is a very common thing on the Chevy Silverado to have a loose feeling steering. So before you go too far, maybe compare it to another similar truck, especailly if this is a new one to you. Also be sure to check the tires. This can be overlooked, but tires are a main factor in how any vehicle handles and how the steering feels.
