Chevy Malibu Code P0442 And P0141 -A/C Not Blowing Cold Air

2001 Chevy Malibu 3400 V6. Theft Systems Codes = A/C doesn't blow cold air any more and my radio is locked. Question:
I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu and I got in it yesterday and my a/c no longer blows cold air and my theft system light came on in my dash, and my radio is locked. What do i need to do to fix all these problems on my car?

Answer:
Does the car start OK and the security light stays on all the time or does your car not even start? The most common problem on your Malibu is the ignition key switch in the dash. This is where the Passlock sensor is located. Replacement of the switch and relearning the theft system would be required.

Has anything been done to the car recently that may have contributed to this condition? These problem could all be individual or they can be related if these all started happening at the same time.

Does the car have a non-factory alarm or remote start? If it does, then i would first get that system removed so that it does not effect the factory system. The radio that says LOC would need to have an unlock code entered into the radio to get it working again. This problem usually happens after the battery has been disconnected. We do offer a service to get you the unlock code to get your radio working.

For the A/C blowing warm air, the first thing you need to do is have the freon charge level check. The only way to be sure to know how much is on the system is to have the system evacuated and then recharged with the proper amount. If the A/C now starts blowing cold, then that means the system was loww and you now need to find the leak.

Question:
I have a 1999 Chevolet Malibu. I need to pass emissions and my check engine light is coming on. I took the car to auto zone and got back three codes, P0442 & P0141 ( one of which was a possible gas cap leak I bought a new gas cap from my local chevy dealership. Please Help.

Answer: The code the P0442 is a small leak in the evaporative emissions system. The gas cap may have fixed that but it could be a problem in a number of areas in that system. Normally a bad gas cap will give an code P0455 large leak detected. You could have a leaking line, a sticking EVAP vent valve, or a bad purge solenoid. The best way to diagnose that condition is to have a mechanic install a smoke tester. That will show where the leak is. Once the repairs are made, the codes would need to cleared from the PCM.

The code P0141 is for the number two oxygen sensor heater circuit. Most likely a bad oxygen sensor. To test that you would need to use a test light on the purple wire at the oxygen sensor. With the key on or the engine running, you should have power at the wire going into the sensor, so the test light will illuminate. If you do have power, then the oxygen sensor is bad. If there is not power there, then you would need a schematic to trace the circuit to find out where the pwer feed is missing.
