GMC Shuts Off- Chevy Silverado How To Replace Distributor

Question:
THIS VEHICLE WILL DRIVE BETWEEN 10 TO 40 MILES AND JUST SHUT OFF. IT STARTS RIGHT BACK UP AND WILL DO THE SAME A LITTLE FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD. ANY IDEAS? 1999 GMC 4X4 SONOMA. Work done to repair = IGNITION MODULE, NEW DISTRIBUTOR, TUNE UP.

Answer:
A couple of things to look into. Make sure battery connections are tight. May sound silly, but people always forget to check that. Fuel pumps are a common failure on these trucks, but usually give a stall then wont start for a while. Sounds to be electrical. Ignition switches in the column are another common part to fail and give different electrical problems.

If you remove the lower steering column panel just below the steering wheel, you can access the ignition switch and harness. Try tapping on the switch when engine running to see that causes any stumbling or stalling. Also wiggle that harness all the way down under the dash. It is a large connector of 3 harnesses under the drivers lower dash panel. Have had several poor terminal connections there.

Question:
1997 Chevy Silverado 4x4 truck. 350 V8. How to get distributor set right to start all it does is back fire through intake.

Answer:
1.Bring cylinder number one piston to Top Dead Center (TDC) of compression stroke.
2.Install a NEW distributor gasket onto the distributor.
3.Align the indent hole on the driven gear with the paint mark on the distributor housing.
4.Ensure that the distributor rotor segment points to the cap hold area.
5.Align the slotted tang in the oil pump drive shaft with the distributor drive shaft. Rotate the oil pump drive shaft with a screwdriver if necessary.
6.Align the flat in the distributor housing toward the front of the engine.
7.Install the distributor and distributor clamp.
8.Once the distributor is fully seated, align the distributor rotor segment with the number 8 pointer that is cast into the distributor base.
9.If the distributor rotor segment does not come within a few degrees of the number 8 pointer, the gear mesh between the distributor and camshaft may be off a tooth or more. Repeat the procedure in order to achieve proper alignment.
10.Install the distributor clamp bolt.
11.Install the distributor cap onto the distributor.

Question:
1996 Chevy 1500 4x4 pick up truck. Engine size = 5.7L Vortec. How to R&R power steering pump. Removed belt. Pump shaft pulled out of pump. Removed front bolts and rear nut on pump stud. Pump still will not slide down and out. Only moves slightly. Also removed hose connections.

Answer:
There are three bolts on the front of the pump, and the rear nut that holds the bracket on the back of the pump. If you've got those removed, and the lines too, there should be no reason it won't come off. Sometimes it's a tight squeeze getting the pump out from behind the aluminum bracket it's attached to, but usually just some force does the trick. If all else fails, you can remove the entire bracket from the truck.

Remove the A/C compressor bolts and move it aside. There a few bolts that hold the bracket to the block and it comes off as a unit. You should be able to remove the pump then.
