Ford Taurus Dies Out- Focus Check Engine Light On

Question on my 1997 Ford Taurus.
Warning lights- Service engine soon. After driving for a short while and coming up to a stoplight the car will act like its about to die, so i take my foot off the brake and slowly move forwards and it stops. Its kind of like the car is breathing, the RPMs go from 1.5 to .5 to 1.5 to .5. Why is this happening?

Answer:
Sounds like the idle air controller is cycling. There are lots of conditions that cause this but probably the easiest to check for is a vacuum leak. Open the hood and listen for a sucking sound. It should lead you to a broken vacuum line. Another possibility is a crack in the power brake booster diaphragm. When you apply the brakes the crack opens wider leaning the engine way out.

Oh and if you have a check engine light stop by Autozone and they will read the codes for you for free. Once you know what the codes are write me back.

Question:
Dear Sir, i have some problems with my Ford Taurus, some time stalling, hesitating, cutting out and some few cases it would shut off, so i've checked most of the sensors till i come to the coolant temp sensor; i've checked the sensor and i've found there's no resistance on it at all (engine is cold, haven't run it for 12 hours; next i did disconnect connectors and with key on.

I've made a test to the wires; pcm side, and i noticed there's no power at all (no 5 volt nor the ground are exists), then i've checked the wires to see if they are shorted wires and they are not and i'vr checked the wires from the sensor connector all the way to the pcm by using a multimeter and wires seems to be good both, so please help me what the problem is and how to resolve it if possible. Thanks in advance. Look forward to reading your answer.

Answer:
If you are testing for resistance at the coolant temperature sensor, and the sensor has no resistance, then the sensor is bad. If you are testing the entire circuit from the computer connector to the sensor and back to the computer, with the computer disconnected and there is no resistance, then there is an open in that circuit, or you are not testing the correct wires. If with all connected and there is no 5 volt reference or ground, then the either the PCM is bad or again, you are testing the wrong wires.

The sensor itself has the have resistance in it for the system to work. If the PCM does not know the resistance, then it does not know the coolant temperature and this could be giving you your driving problems. It should also set a code in the PCM with a check engine light on.

Question:
Replaced ignition switch. I broke the ignition switch and replaced it with a new one now i have no power going to gages but it will turn over and fire but when u let out of it it goes back dead.

Answer:
If you mean that when you release the key the engine dies, then you either have the ignition switch timing incorrect so that when you release it, it goes to the wrong position, or there is a wiring problem to the switch, or even the wrong switch.

If the timng iss off, you will need to remove the new switch and preposition it or at least adjust eh rod that goes down the column. This depends on how the system in your truck is set up. With the year of your Ford, you should have a rod that goes from the key switch down to the actual ignition switch that is attached to the column. That would need to be adjusted.

If these problems started after the replacement, then i would suspect an incorrect switch or a wiring problem that you disturbed during the installation.

Question:
I have a 95 ford Taurus and it wont shift passed second gear but when i remove the battery for awhile and then put it back in it works fine for a little bit then acts up again. What is going on??

Answer:
You probably have an electrical problem with the transmission, such as a module or shift solenoid. When you disconnect the battery, you are basically resetting the system, so it doesn't know there is a problem again until it happens. That's why it will be fine until it acts up and won't shift again. You're basically going to need some transmission work done.

Question:
2001 Ford Fusion Abs warning light came on after start one chilly morning when I released parking brake. Mechanic said DTC was C1095 and I needed to replace abs monitor for $2500. Seemed very high to me so said would take car elsewhere. When picked up vehicle noticed abs warning light was no longer on. When asked mechanic claimed he "erased" the code (without fixing??). Have driven car 100+ miles and abs warning light has yet to come back on. Wonder if he simply topped off brake fluid or checked tire pressure and that fixed it. Question: if abs warning light doesn't come back on, am I good to go?

Answer:That is correct. This is an intermittant problem. It may never happen again or could come back in a few days or weeks. Any time the ABS light is on normal braking is NOT effected but ABS operation is disabled.
