Pontiac Sunfire Hard To Start- Injector Leak And Stabilizer Bar
1999 Pontiac Sunfire.
Question = I'm a tech at Volkswagen , drive a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and had it in
the air and asked the question, does this model not come equipped with a front stabilizer bar???? If not, how come??? Should i put one on? Seems a little loose in turns.
Answer:
This model car may or may not have a front stabilizer bar. It depends on the suspension option. If you
have not owned the car since new, then it may have had one, put was damaged or broken, so then it
was removed. I guess you could add one, if the lower control arm has holes for the links. Best way to
check is to take VIN # to any Pontiac or GM dealer parts department and look one up for your car. It will
come under your VIN weather it originally came with one or not. Installing one on a car that is not
suppose to have a stabilizer bar would be a lot of work for no reason in my opinion. Just leave the car as
is. If it was built that way, you are not going to make it better than it was originally designed.

Question: i did a top end rebuild and i changed the injector o-rings in the process and now that i have it
all back together i cant get the injectors or the fuel input to seal. i even bought another gasket for the
injectors and still cant.
Answer:
The injectors are hard to get seated at times, especially with new o-rings. The best suggestion I
can offer is to lube up the o-rings with lithium grease or a silicone lubricant. Try not to use excessive
amounts and just keep the grease on the o-rings. This will aid in re installation and should let the injectors
pop into place and seat fully. Also clean out the bore that the O rings sit in. Carbon buildup is a common
problem on the 2.2L engine and will prevent the fuel injectors from seating properly.
1997 pontiac sunfire 2.2L. Anti theft Intermittent. GM Computer codes = crank position sensor circuit malfunction. Replaced crank sensor, ignition module and coils. Car wont start hot/ cranks fine but no spark. If I cycle the key enough times it will eventually start or if i leave it until everything is cold it will start and run fine. I also noticed while inspecting that the splash shield over the pcm was missing. I now think the problem may be in the key switch itself any feed back?
Answer:
If you are sure that you do have no spark when it won't start, check if you are loosing fuel injector pulse.
Loss of spark would not be a theft problem. The theft system disables fuel injection. Codes for crank
sensor and no spark may be a broken wire between the crank sensor and the ignition module. I would
check those wires very carefully. Pull on them the entire length to see if a wire stretches or breaks.
With the cover missing around the PCM, remove the electrical connectors and look for corrosion in the connectors, or corrosion in the PCM case seams. There was a Pontiac recall to install new covers to prevent water and corrosion- which would cause the PCM to malfunction. One of those malfunctions is- no start. I have seen many times that a mechanic will leave the covers off just because they are really hard to put back on. Another possibility is that the car was in an accident, the covers were not installed, and now the computer has water intrusion as is faulty.
If there is corrosion around the seams of the PCM case, then the computer may need to be replaced since water got into it and already did damage to it.
