1997 Oldsmobile Aurora Idles High- Throttle Sticking

Problem with my 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora. Codes: Not that i know of. This is the first time i have this problem. Question: When you start up my Olds Aurora it sounds like if some one is pressing the gas pedal. Once you put it into drive, there is no need to press the gas pedal because it just goes on its own.

People have told me that the gas pedal wire was broken, you know the wire that allows you to add more speed when you press the gas pedal. Is this the problem or do i have another issue?

But i looked at the wire and it looks like its fine. I don't know how to be clear about this but it just happen. i drove the car in the morning and then in the after noon i try to drive it again, but it started acting up. What might it be? What might cause my car to act like if some one is pressing the gas with out anything touching the gas pedal.

ANSWER:

If you are sure nothing is holding the throttle cable or gas pedal, then you can have a sticking Idle Air Control (IAC), or a vacuum leak, or possibly the throttle plate is sticking in the throttle body bore. Remove the air inlet duct and look for carbon in the bore, wiggle the throttle lever on the engine while it is idling too high to see if that corrects it. If so, you will need a new throttle body assembly.

Broken wires for a drive by wire system will not cause the idle to be too high. This would cause a check engine light and no response from the throttle. The only way that can make the engine RPM way too high would be if a certain wire is shorted to power or ground and the computer sees that as you pressing on the accelerator. That would be a million to one shot though and be very unlikely to happen without a check engine light and stored trouble codes.
