How do you test a electronic module?
How do you test a electronic module?
I have a Mercury Villager estate 2000 I was getting some help from my son to put on new distributor and was about to move it the ignition swithch was on and electrical sparks flew everywhere from my hand to the distributor anyway it looked like the 4th of July I have never had this happen before but now I think that the new moduel is burned up is there anyway to test it.
Re: How do you test a electronic module?
Some large parts stores can test some modules, but not all. That is about the only way. If there were that many sparks, hopefully it blew a fuse or two. If not, i would say the module is fried.

Thanks I did as you said but they did not have equipment to test the module I am wondering did this happen because there was still a charge in the coil or when you have the ignition on does the coil is charged instantly and is my distrubutor cap or wires bleeding.

Yes coil will store energy, test it by putting it back and trying to start it. Or if u can open it check for black smoke. There are most likely resistance tests if u still have not figured it out email me and ill look up on my modis how to test it. -mike
