2009 Saturn Vue steering issue

Unread post by kwj » Fri Oct 24, 2014 1:42 pm

My Saturn vue turns hard when moving at slower speeds, parking lots or turning corners at low speed. When cruising at normal speed everything is fine. The fluid level is good and belt is tight. Any ideas???

so, you don't have the electric power steering then...

you could have a pump that is not sending enough pressure or you could have a bad rack (control valve)

try starting the engine, leave it in park, hold the brake pedal down and try turning the steering wheel all the way from lock on one side to lock on the other side with the engine just idling. the raise the engine rpm to 2000 and do the same thing. If it gets easier with the higher rpm it could be a weak pump. If it seems like it's hard both ways you could have a bad rack or a broken pump. I have seen GM steering pumps shear off the pump pulley inside the pump.
