Dodge Ram 1500 shifting problems

Unread post by djmahle » Tue Nov 26, 2013 11:28 am

i have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 5.9l 4x4 when I make a hard left turn like when I make a u turn, my truck jerks when i straighten the wheels. Also sometimes when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear the rpm's jump and the truck jerks.

check for a frozen U-joint. Jack up the front wheels and with the steering wheel turned to one side roll the tire on each side. does one stop or bind as you turn it? Do you see orange (rust) colored dust around the U-joint caps. Common problem on dodge. Doesn't have anything to do with shifting. Shifting sounds like your trans may be slipping between shifts. Have a tranny shop test drive it.

2005 Dodge Ram 1500, 4-wheel drive gear shift has no resistance, feels like it's not connected to anything, unable to get truck out of 4-wheel drive. Help!

you need to look under the cab and look for the shifter linkage. Have someone move it while you look to see what is moving or what is not moving. Is it an external problem or an internal problem.
