1999 Toyota Camry Engine Temperature Too Low

Unread post by Mike K » Sun Apr 17, 2011 7:41 am

The temperature gauge on my 99 Toyota Camry reads halfway between hot and cold when the car is running and parked, when I drive it, the gauge goes all the way down to almost cold. Do I need a new thermostat ?

Yes. You need a new thermostat on your car. That is what regulates the coolant flow through the radiator. It is stuck open, so coolant is flowing and cooling off when it should not be. The thermostat should not open until the coolant is about 180 degrees.

Ok, so you either have an alternator problem or a battery problem. I'd have to say you need to at least get the charging system checked out by a professional to determine which avenue to go with.

If the alternator is to blame, that would be easily fixed by installing a new one. And if it's just a battery issue, the same goes for that too. Shouldn't be too hard to diagnose and repair.

if the spark plugs gi in from the top through the valve cover then you should have a valve cover gasket set that has the gaskets the go around each spark plug well to keep the oil out.

the pwr button is to have the trans shift to give you more power to the tires than in the normal position that is going for better gas mileage. shift times and pressures

with automatic trans the spec is 750 manual trans 700

that being said, 900 to 1000 really smooths out the idle roughness.
