2005 Mazda RX-8 Oil foams

Unread post by mongo41 » Tue Feb 05, 2013 3:46 pm

I have a 2005 RX-8. After running it on the freeway at 60-75 mph's, when I check the oil, it is foamy, like the foam on a Starbucks latte. After I wait for a few minutes for cool down, the oil is fine. I have not had a need to add any oil. What could be causing this?

Is the oil discolored at all when it cools down and the foam is gone?

Is the engine oil OVER full?

The color of the engine oil is normal and the level is good...not over full and not where I need to add any.

OK. Foam is caused by the oil getting aerated.
The only thing other than an internal engine problem i have ever seen is a bad oil filter.
Try changing oil with a different brand filter than you have now.
