99' Ford Explorer Sport turn signal multi switch

Unread post by MatthewinGA » Wed Jan 11, 2017 9:15 pm

I'm searching for the color diagram for the multi switch. Which color wire goes to which pin.

I'm most interested in pin 1-8.

Thanks

what pins are you looking for? Turn, wiper, high beams... (it looks like you should have two seven wire connectors)
if you just want colors:
684 pink/yel
359 gry/red
880 lt blu/org
44 lt blu
385 wht/red
3 lt grn/wht
9 dk blu/wht
5 brn/yel
2 wht/lt blu
511 lt grn

these are for high beams
dk blu/org
red/yel
gry/org
red/blk

1999 Ford Explorer Sport

The wires were loose and fell out. Some may have been put back in the incorrect positions. Mainly the top portion pins 1-8.

I got a replacement harness from the junkyard and the some wires don't match. The discrepancy may be my own (my brother) fault but I'm unsure.

As you can see the discrepancy on terminal 4 & 7 and the reverse of wires colors 6 & 8. The missing wire from between pin 7 & 8 (blank).

the book shows pins 1-8 but I do see the higher numbers marks

pin 1 = 511
pin 2 = 3
pin 3 = 385
pin 4 = 44
pin 5 = 2
pin 6 = 6
pin 7 = 380
pin 8 = 5
blank = 379

I have posted 4 pictures for your review. 2 in this post and another 2 below it.

harness was tested for continuity between pins. all were 100%

see some of the wires are not matching...

pin 1, 2, 3, 5 match perfectly.
4 & 7 are switched
8 empty
6 & 8 reversed

I'm guessing for starters. Pin 7 continuity has no match according to the book, so that might be in the wrong place.

I might have to move it to the 4 position since that has multiple matching points needed for continuity.

What about the other pin colors?

how many wired connectors are in each harness connector?

yes, switch 4 and 7 by your numbering system would look to be correct.

the top picture appears to be the correct positions. If you have a trailer connector in the back of your truck you can check if the turn signals are to the correct side. If they are opposite then you need to switch the brn/yel and the drk blu/white wires.

The lower harness is complete with no problems pins 9-15.

I switched 4 & 7 and all work. Light, wipers, turn, hazard, high, low.

Now 6 & 8 are hanging loose. No trailer connection to worry about.

I tested both 6 & 8 matching color to color and reversing the colors and I don't notice anything happening.

Should I just connect them?

yea, put them back into the connector. this way it will be a cleaner situation and if you ever do a trailer connector you should have the wiring available.
