I'd probably recommend using the reliable Ford C6 transmission. It's a heavy duty unit and should be fine for your particular application.

Ford F150 wheel grinding

Unread post by Heidi » Mon Feb 25, 2013 11:34 am

My truck was making a grinding sound. I changed the wheel hub assembly, rotor, and brakes. But I still hear the grinding when I press the gas petal. I have a 2004 F150 truck. What do I do know?

Hello Heidi, does the grinding sound come when the truck is moving and you press on the gas pedal, or when you press on the gas pedal when the truck is not moving? If when moving, then it could be another wheel. If when not moving, it could be a bearing in the altenator, or one of the belt pulleys. Good luck. R.

It only grinds when I press on the gas.

My 1995 F150 engine dies when you turn on the head lights.

The truck starts fine but when you turn the headlights on, it dies. Battery reads 14 volts. When you turn on the lights, left headlight is bright and right is dim. Right turn signal also comes on.

it sounds like you have a wiring problem. unplug the dim headlight and verify your power and grounds. The right turn coming on may be a circuit problem or may be a wrong bulb. normally when you have your headlights on the parking lights come on. If you have a single element bulb in a socket for a dual element bulb you will bridge the two electrical contacts in the socket. Has some one recently changed a bulb?

Headlight should be on a completely separate circuit from the engine systems. However, electricity always looks to complete a circuit. Sometimes making connections through unimaginable ways. You may have to go and check each part of your headlight system to find which parts is affecting your engine. you may have to unplug your headlight switch and apply power to see what part will shut the engine down.

4x4 problems in ford truck

Unread post by fish » Tue Nov 25, 2014 11:10 am

I have a 1989 ford f150 4x4 that has the older type front locking hubs and the problem is that when I lock the hubs and engage it into 4 wheel drive it runs fine in a straight line but as soon as I turn in either direction the vehicle starts to sort of lunge or jump around. Any solutions to my problem would be greatly appreciated.

yes, do not lock your hubs on dry pavement. When 4wd is engaged the two front tires are locked on to the differential. when you turn in any direction the outside wheel during the turn turns in a bigger circle than the the inside tire. The differential is trying to make the tires move the same, so you will get the front end scrubbing the tires as they roll. This is normal and can cause damage if you drive constantly like that. That's why 4WD is for off road or in conditions where traction is poor. The tires will slide on the dirt, snow or water. Dry pavement has no give for the tires to slide so they scrub and make the front end jump around.
