2001 mustang ABS Traction issue

Unread post by djmalone » Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:10 am

hello all!! :)
so quick breakdown, my 2001 mustang v6 has it's ABS light on, the traction control and cruise do not work.
I took it to a mechanic and the 1st didn't have a clue and said to maybe take to Ford.
I decided to take to a Napa garage and sure enough he said the ABS control module was toast.
So i got quoted out and $1100 was the cheapest, however i found a used one on a mustang that had an interior fire so i bought that for $100. I took it back to the mechanic and he installed it but the abs and cruise and traction still are not working, i'm now $600 down and still with the problem....HELP ME before this car becomes a nightmare money pit!!
Thanks in advance.

Just because the module you got was from another Mustang, even of the same year, does mean it is the correct one. Is it the same part #? Even if it is, that does not mean the software is compatable with your car. Maybe the one it came out is programmed for different size tires, or not with traction control, etc.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure where you know this information?
I spoke to ford, they said the abs control module
From any other mustang between 99-04 will work
Just to make sure it has traction control.
And it does as I would not have bought it otherwise.
Thanks for the input though..

HMM. I thought there were diiferent types for that car. Well, its been a while since i worked on many Fords.

So then the original diagnostic was a wrong guess. They have to stand by their diagnostic you paid for, and now diagnose it properly. Depending on why they said it was bad, it may be a wiring problem to the module or a bad ground. If they scanned it for codes, there is no code that says "I am bad". Maybe they could not communicate with the module? That could be their equipment or a power / ground problem for the ABS module.

It could also just be a bad speed sensor or wiring at a speed sensor. Again, i dont know why they condemned the module.

Simple....take a decent scan tool and see if all wheels spin at the same speed when you drive it, if ones off most likely sensor or possible tone ring in rotor. Also check fuses. If it has a single sensor in the rear diff, quick check with multimeter will test that

2003 Ford Mustang ABS Light

Unread post by lilbit221959 » Thu Oct 16, 2014 9:40 am

I am having some sort of electrical problem. The car will drive fine then out of the blue the ABS light lights up and the radio flashes on and off and the car dies and when it's jumped it runs like crap, then after sitting awhile it ran fine again and until I removed the fuse the map lights on the rear view mirror would stay lit (they light when you open the door its a convertible) Now it wont start again and I had to haveit towed home last night does anyone know what to look for with this issue? Help!

"The car will drive fine then out of the blue the ABS light lights up and the radio flashes on and off and the car dies and when it's jumped it runs like crap"

so when you are driving the car and it acts up and dies and you have to jump it to get it running again?
