HOW DO I GET MY 1992 FORD TEMPO TO START

Unread post by causality » Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:29 pm

How do I get my 1992 Ford Tempo to start ?

The car has gas.
The car will crank.
There is spark.

I tried : pumping the accelarator while turning key. No result
I tried : turning key to allow the gas to be pumped into the engine ten times.
No result.
I tried : Letting the car sit for 2 hours then tried to start it . No result.

What do you recommend. Send reply to XXXXXXX.XXX

We don't reply directly to emails here, just here in the forum.

First off, there are many checks you need to do before determining the actual problem. The things you've done, other than making sure there is spark are really of no consequence.

You need to check fuel pressure. You can have a nice full tank of gas, but maybe it's not getting to the engine.

You need to check and see if you have compression.

You could have a wiring problem somewhere, a bad computer, bad fuel injectors, a timing problem, etc. Also, check to see if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer.

Just buy some carb or brake cleaner and spray it into a manifold vacuum line or port, there's your fuel. If it starts you have a fuel problem. Also make sure the battery if charged. Last, not sure on this car but take the oil cap off, crank it over and see if the rockers or anything in the valve cover moves.....make sure timing belt is not broken. If u have all that I would be surprised if it doesn't start.

I try to start my car and it does nothing but the radio lights and all come on. I just installed a new battery and altimator. What is wrong. I can let it sit for about 30 minutes and then it starts right up

you should check to see if you are getting the signal to the starter solenoid when it doesn't start. white/pink wire goes from the starter relay to the starter solenoid. You could have a bad relay. (that would show up as on voltage or not enough voltage to the solenoid) if you have a full battery voltage and the starter doesn't engage then I would suspect the starter.
