zx2 at idle makes a sound like a constant tone
Can I have some help? My zx2 at idle makes a sound like a constant tone. If i accel it goes away and returns at idle again. Changed recently alternator timing belt and tensioner pulley... any ideas? I thought a pulley could be going bad but the tone sound goes away when accelerating instead of increasing...
Re: zx2 at idle makes a sound like a constant tone
the IAC has been known to make noise like a horn at idle. It controls the air that bypasses your throttle plate so the computer can control the idle speed. see if the noise goes away if you just unplug it.

Re: zx2 at idle makes a sound like a constant tone
Thanks for your reply but no luck. Im thinking its the idle pulley under the alt it has a slight wobble while running... guess ill try that next... I also noticed when the ac is turned on the sound (like a vacuum cleaner) goes away, until the throttle is increased...
Re: zx2 at idle makes a sound like a constant tone
try using a stethoscope and listen to the compressor. clutch bearing my be making noise. compressor may be making a slightly different noise engaged. idler pulley, tensioner pulley the make a whirring to rumbling sound when they are getting worn. Take the belt off and start up the engine for just a few seconds. if the noise is gone shut the engine off and spin the pulleys by hand. a bad pulley will make the noise when you spin them by hand

Re: zx2 at idle makes a sound like a constant tone
Ok today i finally took the belt off and spun the pulleys they seem ok. I started the car with the belt off and the sound is still there..Any other suggestions? Timing belt pulleys? i didnt change them when i changed the timing belt...
Re: zx2 at idle makes a sound like a constant tone
it could be a timing belt pulley or even the timing belt itself. Hard to guess on a noise I can't hear myself. Use a stethoscope on the timing belt cover and see if you can pinpoint the area where the noise is coming from. T-Belt too loose may make noise but may go away when torque is applied. T-Belt too tight will make noise but the noise should still be there when you accelerate.
