2003 Ford Taurus Whining Sounds And Wont Shift

Unread post by Charles » Wed Nov 07, 2012 1:38 pm

2003 Ford Taurus. Car will not shift into gear. It also makes a whining sound when it gets to 1000 RPMs at idle. I have replaced the transmission filter and added transmission fluid back in. I haven't noticed any signs of the transmission slipping. Any ideas where else to look?

Also, when i am going down hill and coming to a stop sign the whole car shakes , the whole front end was redone and yet the problem still persists, It also stalls out when coming to a stop sometimes what could this be ?

You've got quite a few problems there, but let's start with the transmission issue. The whine noise can be the front pump inside the trans or even the torque converter. If this is the case, that is why it won't shift. This will usually call for a complete overhaul of the transmission. It may also be associated with the shaking while slowing down if it's trying to downshift or something is broken inside the trans. As for the stalling out when coming to a stop, that can be anything from lack of fuel pressure, to an ignition problem, or computer/sensor problem. Usually a problem like this will set a trouble code or codes. I'd recommend getting it scanned to see if there are any codes stored and go from there. Your biggest concern is obviously the transmission, and since that can be quite an expensive fix, you should get that looked at first.

Sun loosened dash

Unread post by redman » Mon May 06, 2013 2:34 pm

On a 2001 Ford Taurus the dash is loose for about 24" in front of the steering wheel. I can clamp it down but need to know what kind of glue to use that will hold it down when the clamps come off. I thought about both 2 part epoxy or construction glue. Ideas please.

Two part epoxy works wonders and is usually my first choice if I want to make sure something stays together. Dash trim, though, might be fine being held with a product such as Gorilla Glue, or similar. Totally up to you, just about anything should work ok.
