Hi p0306 check engine light on. Dealer says # 6 cylinder misfire and suspect burnt valve. They want 1500 to fix u think it is worth it or can I get cheaper elsewhere? 140,000 miles. Thanks

That's actually a pretty reasonable price! If you do indeed have a burnt valve, that means they will have to remove the cylinder head to fix that problem. That is a very labor intensive job which makes the price pretty high.

I would always recommend sticking with the dealer on big repairs like that anyway, as they would be more apt to stand behind their work. It sounds like a fair price, and similar to what we would charge at the Chevy dealer for the same problem.

You don't want to end up getting it done cheaper somewhere else, and having them cause further issues with your car.

Dealers are hungry for work, verify the problem.....leak down test, compression test, check spark plug and wire or coil depending on what u got. Start by switching plug and wire to different cylinders, make sure wire is at correct cylinder......then see if the miss changes cylinders. And compression test it.....I doubt u have a leak down tester but that would be the best way.
