gmc envoy 2004 transmission speed sensor

my husband wants to change the transmission speed sensor put truck up on jacks can't see where it's located at. And is it hard to change yurself? the speedometer has been acting strange sometimes it go down to 0 when going down the road, put diganostic on & that's what came up.

upper left rear of transfer case. sometimes the instrument cluster is the problem. the speed sensor sends the signal to the cluster and the cluster sends it to the computer. So the cluster might drop the signal for the speedometer and the computer can't tell if the speed sensor is the problem or the cluster is the problem.

This speed sensor measures the transmission output or wheel speed. The ECM or engine control module uses this information to modify engine functions such as ignition timing, AF ratio, transmission shift points, and initiates diagnostic routines.
