P0014 code on 2003 GMC Envoy

Unread post by gelmore » Tue Jan 01, 2013 10:31 am

This code keeps popping up even after I replaced the camshaft position sensor. What else should I do? Gas mileage is terrible and there is a lunging while seating idle or when stopped at stop signs, etc.

Unfortunately I don't have good news for you. If after replacing the sensor you still have the problem, that is usually the tell-tale sign of a stretched timing chain. Especially with the rought idle at stops, you definitely have an internal engine problem.

The only way to fix this is to replace the timing chain and associated parts. This requires a great deal of engine tear down and special tools. Along with the chain, sometimes the cams and/or other valve train items needs replaced due to wear and tear if the engine has a lot of miles on it, or was not maintained well.

This code came up over a year ago, at which time I replaced the camshaft position sensor.
Same code has now come back up. Someone at work told me I may need to replace both the camshaft and the crankshaft senors. Another code showing is an exhaust sensor, but i do not know the code #. Does any of this make sense?

Replacing the crank sensor won't help any with this issue. You're going to have to have the engine looked at by a professional.

Replaced the variable timing solenoid and the spark plugs. Check engine light is gone, as well as the surging that was driving my wife crazy.

Hey Gelmore, did you ever figure out and fix the code that was coming up for your exhaust? I have the same problem with my 02 Envoy right now. P0014, and P0420 which is something with the Cat or o2 sensor. I just dont know if i should try the o2 sensor because people say that it doesnt always fix it, and that i might need a whole new cat. Let me know what you did and what worked. Thanks.
