1999 Chevrolet Venture P0327 and P0401
I've got a 1999 Chevrolet Venture that is throwing codes P0327 and P0401. I have replaced the EGR valve and checked to see if the lines to the EGR valve were clogged and it is still throwing the code. I have been trying to figure out what could be causing it to throw the P0327 code as most people I have talked to have said that the knock sensors rarely go out on these motors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've done some knock sensors on Venture vans, and usually that code only pops up if you have a bad sensor or the wiring to it is bad, such as a corroded terminal on the connector. Give it a look and make sure no wires are broken and the connector looks good, and if so I'd say go ahead and replace the knock sensor.
As for the EGR code, it could be that the intake plenum is what is clogged up, as that's what usually happens on those engines. If that's the case, your best bet is to get a new plenum because cleaning the port is very difficult and most times doesn't do the trick anyway.

Re: 1999 Chevrolet Venture P0327 and P0401
Hi, I hope there is some help here for me with the P0401 code. Mine acts erratically. Sometimes I can drive 100-150 miles before it codes, other times, it will do it within 5-10 miles. I have removed the EGR valve and cleaned everything I could with carburetor cleaner and wire. With or without the EGR valve attached, the vehicle idles smoothly.
I just bought this van and the engine was rebuilt, it runs great, but I found some mistakes (or so I think) like the possibly of the EGR valve installed backward? Is that possible?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

your venture uses MAP sensor change to see if the egr is working or not. You should probably use a scanner and open the egr (at idle) and see if it makes the engine run rough (from having a vacuum leak at idle). If it doesn't make any change you may have a plugged egr passage. if it does start to stumble look at the map sensor readings. Also, check your PCV valve. the wrong valve or bad seals around the PCV system can make it so the vacuum reading won't meet what the computer is looking for when the egr valve opens.

Thanks so much for the fast reply. You basically verified what I was reading. I am going to try to purchase one from a junk yard and make sure this one is clean as a whistle. I take it replacement is not too difficult?
Another question, have you come across the compressor clutch not engaging on this van? If you are aware of any obvious things to try, I would appreciate it. Refrigerant is good, and it worked the day I test drove it, but it hasn't sense.

you should verify that you have enough pressure in the ac system. If the pressure is too low it may not turn on.

Thanks for the advise on the intake manifold. It was indeed stopped up with carbon. Cleaning it took care of it and it passed inspection!
Here is another question...
Two days ago, the "Service Engine Soon" light started pulsing on & off, the engine began running roughly. I parked the van and started it 20 minutes later... engine started knocking and oil pressure light came on. I immediately shut off the engine (it ran for less than 60 seconds). Would a fair assumption be an oil pump?

when the SES (service engine soon) light starts blinking if means that the computer see something wrong that could damage your catalytic converter. How does your oil level and condition look? the knocking and oil pressure light should be something different from the check engine light. Unless, the engine problem has affected your oil. Check to see if your oil has either water contamination or smells like gas in the oil.
