2000 Chevy Venture light issues

Unread post by BillyBob » Thu Jan 28, 2010 3:30 pm

My 2000 Chevy Venture is having electrical issues.
My brake lights stopped working (only the two lower ones) the top one works
My cruise control & traction control stopped working at the same time. I do not know if this is somehow connected???

I was told there is a relay?? that seperates the two brake lights from the top one. Any information on this would be appreciated.
I'm unemployed & not a mechanic, but I need to fix this issue.
If nothing else perhaps a direction to go to get this answered.

Thank you,
Bill

No relay dividing the upper light from the lf. and right.
There is a splice that splits these 2 different circuitss. It is in the wiring harness for the left taillamp. A few inches down the harness from the tail lamp connector.
Would need a test light to check for power coming out of that splice, or check for power at the left and right lamp assemblies at the white wire.
If powwer at each side, check the ground circuit- black wire.
If power in and grounds, tehn either bad bulbs, which is common, or the circuit board on each or the connector on each side is bad. Also common.
Disconnect each board and look for corrosion.
