1997 c1500 tranny stuck in 3rd gear

Unread post by ben » Tue Dec 07, 2010 1:56 pm

Hi I have 97 c1500 v8 5.7 I think it's tbi the trottle body faces up.My question is in the morning my truck runs fine once it's warm it bucks from 2nd gear and is stuck in 3rd, auto zone said p0785 being 3_2nd shift solenoid, so I replaced a,b tcc and 3_2 shift solenoids. The tranny shifted fine for about 5 miles then the ses light came back on and it bucks again. Now I'm lost, people tell me the ignition harness is to blame I'm not sure, did I mention I also lose 1gear and overdrive once engine warm which is about 2 miles drive and truck won't rev over 2000 rpm even if floored on take off,did full tune up,oh and tranny does not slip if I disconnect the battery for 5 min.It only bucks once ses light comes on, all gauges work fine (VE139248) are the last 4 numbers of the vin, any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We have had ignition supply voltage problems. The pink wire at the trans connector. But this will usually cause other codes since this power feeds all the solenoids. The ignition switch in the column is usually to blame, or a broken / frayed wire going down to the transmission connector. Pull on the harnesses at the back of the motor. You would need to get under there and test for at least 12 volts at the tranmission connector.
If it is not an electical problem, then sounds like a valve body issue.

I would look at your power distribution from the ignition switch
