1994 Chevy Astro Van Blows Smoke
I have a 1994 Chevy Astro Van when I start it, it blows a blue smoke out of the tail pipe what could be causing this?
Re: 1994 Chevy Astro Van Blows Smoke
blue smoke is oil. your engine is burning oil. rings, valve guides... it's not a big deal unless you're smoking a lot. If it is rings, you can sometimes use an oil additive to see if your rings are gummed up. If you get smoke on acceleration it's usually rings and if you get smoke on decel it's usually valve guides. But like I said If you aren't putting out a smoke screen, I would worry about it until you have to do a smog check or something. If you need to pass an emission check it's going to be bad. Most states don't allow any visible smoke. If that's the case you may want to trade the van in because the repair might be more than the value of the vehicle.
btw, blue smoke is burning oil, black smoke is unburned fuel, white smoke is burning coolant
