1996 Chevy Lumina Engine won't Start, Turns over and SPARKS

Unread post by mtndrew406 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 7:55 pm

Hey I have a Problem with my 96' Chevy Lumina.
Recently the car stopped running on me and now I can't start it.
I just replaced all 3 Ignition coils and all 6 spark plugs and wires.
The Fuses all seem to be good and it gets spark.

Here is a link to a video of trying to start my engine...
Please help!

So, obviously not an ignition problem. Have you checked fuel pressure? Fuel pump could be failing, or possibly the fuel filter is extremely clogged and restricting flow. Check the fuel pressure regulator for a ruptured diaphragm as well, it could be dumping fuel straight into the intake.

In your video it seems like it wanted to start a couple times, but couldn't quite get going. You're either not getting enough fuel, or getting too much fuel.

My 1987 corvette won't start. Main power source to starter is good and I can jump the starter and it will turn engine. If I spray starter fluid it will run for a moment. The instrument lights and accessories come on when you turn on the key but starter does nothing. Fuses good. Any suggestions? Thanks you for any help you can offer.

first thing to do is see if you are getting the signal to the starter solenoid. Sounds like you're not because you can jump the starter. (if you are jumping it by connecting the battery cable at the starter to the solenoid) Ignition switch, neutral safety switch... bad connection at the battery. Don't look at anything else until you find out why the starter won't turn the engine over. (starter rotate the crankshaft)
