2003 Chevy Malibu
3400 v6
Service vehicle soon
Only oil change every 3000 miles
work done to repair = changed fuel filter
tech = jk
question = the 1st problem was the
theft system lights up
and my son has to wait 10-15 sec for car to start, our warranty had just
gone out when this happened and dealer said it might be ignition theft
system, now the car while running loses power and wont start, after a
while it will restart, but while running it will lose power, the fuel
filter was changed out, it does'nt seem to be the fuel pump, the car ran
good for about a week and now back to square one, also the service
vehicle soon light comes on and of, the local parts store, said they c
an't
put on diagnostic machine or it would mess up other sensors

JK:
Sounds like you may have more than 1 problem. First step would be to get the
codes scanned. Auto parts stores do not have the ability to scan BCM (body
controller) for codes. The theft system has several components. The
ignition
lock cylinder
is the one that fails most of the time, The ignition switch could
cause theft and no start problems, and could also cause a stall condition. I
would suggest getting the codes read from the PCM (powertrain control module)
and the bcm to start. Also have the fuel pressure checked when the car stalls.
All these condition MAY be related to a faulty ignition switch, but without
codes,
and some preliminary diag., hard to say for sure. You could try tapping on the
ignition key and area around the ignition, and see if it may give some signs that
a problem exists in that area.
