Vehicle make/model 1996 Chevrolet Lumina
Mileage = 109,000
Engine size = 3.1L
dash lights = Yes
work done prior = New Fuel Filter
work done to repair = Intake Manifold
tech = KK
question = The lumina has a rough start, where it'll turn over more
then it usually does. It will then rev lower then usual, almost sputter,
and sometimes stall. The panels will all be lit, but engines out.
This only seems to happen after the car was run for a short/medium
distance, left to sit for a very short period of time, and then started
again. Could this be a fuel pump on its way out, no longer able to keep
pressure?
KK:
Could possibly be a fuel pump going out. But sounds more the fuel pressure regulator is
leaking fuel. There is a good description and pics of this on our site. In the 'how-to, tips...'
section, click on the link for 'common 3.1/3.4 fuel pressure regulator....'. Just let the car get
warm, shut it off for a while, then pull off the vacuum hose and smell for gar. If the line smells,
then the regulator is leaking.
