Chevy Express Van Tow / Haul Light

My 2001 Chevy 1500 Express Van. 5.3 V8. Question = No tow/haul light on, the system does not activate when I push the button on the shifter.

Answer:
The switch and function are controlled by the body control module (BCM). Possible switch or bcm faulty. Would need to check the resistance across the switch with a volt meter. When depressed there should have continuity. If switch is ok, then probably a BCM problem, or wiring to it, or ground side of the switch. The black wire on switch must have a good ground.

Question:
Battery is good and has full charge. Everything lights up but when i turn the key. Everything shuts off with a click but the engine doesn't make a sound. Is it a short or should i be looking for something else. 2000 Chevy Express Van Engine size = 5.3l Vortec check engine light. Repairs made= checked and charged battery.

Answer:
As long as you are sure the battery is good, you could have a bad starter on the van. Normally the lights, etc. go off when the key is turned to the 'crank' position. I would check for power at the starter solenoid, usually a purple wire, while someone tries to start the van. If you have power there then you know it is a bad starter. Otherwise, could be wiring, or even a bad ignition switch. That would require more circuit testing and component testing.

If you can find a wiring schematic you can trace the ignition circuit through the switch, fuse box, computer, and finally to the starter. That would help eliminate things as you go along. Also check the battery ground. Follow the negative cable from the battery down to the engine and make sure that ground is clean and tight.

Question:
Hi, We bought a 2006 chevy Silverado LT 1500, last weekend and the key less remote had been lost by the previous owner. We were told that someone had opened the truck from the inside, setting off the alarm and had to some how unknown by the dealer, and now the security light on the dash will not go off and we've bought a new remote and tried to set it to the truck with no luck. How can we reset the system so we can use the new one? When the alarm had been set off it was some how shut off. The dealer didn't know how since they bought it from an auction.

Answer:
OK. Then it sounds like the system has turned on the light because of the previous problem, but it is not effecting the theft / security. You can try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect to see if that helps. If not, you may need to take it to the dealer to have a relearn procedure done and to program the remote.

If the dealer does not know how to shut it off then i would assume this is not a factory system. If it were they would be able to do it with no problem. Getting a vehicle from an auction means that who knows how many people worked on this truck and what kind of system was put in it. You may need to go under the driver side of the dash and totally remove the aftermarket alarm and remote start setup. Although this can cause more problems because you would have to rewire that stuff back to the factory wiring setup in the long run it is your best option to repair this problem and may fix other problems down the road. These non factory systems really suck !
